High tarp

This is particularly useful above a fire, as the increased height gives the necessary space and the gap between tarpaulins allows the smoke to escape.

The high tarp is fundamentally the same as the low tarp – you just need longer ridge, stretch and guy lines. You will also need to know a trick or two to get the ridge and stretch lines up nice and high.

1. Select your site, finding two tree branches that are at the desired height.

You will need a very long length of string for your ridge line, long enough to go between the trees you have selected and come down to a height that is easy to tie off.

Lay your tarps on the ground side by side and thread the ridge line through the eyelets of both, to connect them. Then tie your stretch lines on too.
